bitty knowledge

it’s really funny in an awkward way to walk the streets of berlin these days, tuning into conversations and discussions of students and young people chit-chatting about the current situation in gaza. solidarity with the suffering innocent people becomes quite single-edged. chancellor merkel officially declared undivided support of the israeli operation and some people condemn it as spineless and sneaky support for israel just out of guilty consciousness because of germany’s special historic responsibility. even comparisons of the israeli government with the nazi regime can be heard on a daily occurrence and whenever a palestinian gets killed by an israeli bomb or bullet, the “genocide” accuses quickly bark up from the bar tables. comments by people about the media coverage of the crisis often drift off towards the worldwide jewish conspiracies that apparently pull propaganda strings. people talk about long secretly planned invasion ideas of the idf, mossad infiltrations of the hamas, zionist masterplans, even long term missions of nuking iran… all in all the whole dumb antisemitic bullshit starting to bubble up again? come on, people! that’s so fucking ridiculous!

i really condemn the short-sighted and disproportional extent of the IDF’s “operation lead” in gaza that will probably lead to more hatred and fanatism among the arab neighbors and palestinian citizens, but really: here are a few questions you should be able to answer before you put on your kufiya and start babbling:

  • who tolerated 8 months of constant quassam barrage from the hamas peacefully?
  • who forcefully dragged out orthodox zionist fellow citizens from the gaza strip to end the “occupation” and to give the palestinians a chance for autonomous development?
  • who lets ambulances cross the border to treat the wounded?
  • who hides bombs and weapons in churches and schools?
  • who preaches holy war and total annihilation of the enemy?
  • what is the self declared goal of the hamas?
  • who broke the cease-fire?
  • who uses the fellow citizens, women and children as shields or bombs?

please, start using your brain before you open your mouth!

  3. Hey there Kiritan, my friend Ray-V told me about this post and asked me to comment. Few minor corrections:

“Who tolerated 8 months of constant quassam barrage from the hamas peacefully?”

Actually, it’s more like 8 years, not 8 months (I was serving on our border with Jazza in 2001, when Hamas first started to bombard the villages nearby).

“who hides bombs and weapons in churches and schools?”

As i recall, Hamas burned most of the churches in the Jazza strip after he came to power, the few Chrsitians who haven’t escaped during the coup are keeping a very low profile. It’s not safe to be Chrsitian in Jazza, nor gay or secular. The word you were looking for is a mosque.

“# who preaches holy war and total annihilation of the enemy?
    # what is the self declared goal of the hamas?”

BTW, the enemy is not only the Jews, or israel. The Hamas self declared goal is the westren world (watch Hamas MP saying it out loud
    “Rome will be conquerd” [00:36]
“The Islamic conquests which will spread through Europe in its entirety” [01:07]

  4. hello moshe. thanks for your additional informations. i was falsely using the term “churches”, that’s true - i used it to generally describe religious buildings.

  7. Yours is a very simplistic view of this conflict, one that is framed by israeli propaganda.
maybe you never took the time to notice, but Islamic Jihad (not hamas) is firing rockets at their own farms that were stolen from them when israel was forced upon them at gunpoint.
Israel’s blockade of Gaza is in violation of international law and the geneva conventions as is the confiscation of land in the west bank by the erection of the illegal wall. the crime syndicate in charge of israel is destroying any legitimacy the country may have once had. For sure Hamas are no angels, but the behaviour of the Government of Israel, a supposed democracy, in bombing a major city and using palestinians as human shields is nothing short of disgusting. we in the west can see through the propaganda israel spews out as lame apologies for its wife beating like treatment of its neighbours. This problem only ever get worse as long as israel seeks war instead of peace.

  8. My view might be simplistic - as everyone’s is. Israel maybe violates international law and the geneva convention, but how does the Hamas follow international law, human rights conventions or even humanistic principles? By hiding in mosques and schools? By openly refusing to accept Israel’s existence and declaring to destroy it? By calling their international “brothers” to kill jews around the world? What Israeli propaganda are you talking about? The pictures of dead palestinian children? I see them and I don’t like it. It’s a matter of who to blame…

    Comment by kiritan:flux — January 14, 2009 #

  9. well, if you want to blame someone, blame those who do not want peace. you certainly won’t have heard any call from hamas to kill jews around the world unless you heard it from a pro israeli source that was lying. It suits israel to cast the palestinians as sub humans who only want to die while they kill jews. The Hamas charter you cite is long considered as lapsed by everyone except israel who desperately needs to feel persecuted in order to justify israel’s appalling behaviour towards the palestinians. but look at how Israel treats fatah, who try to negotiate rather than fight. All they got for it was more land grabbed, nore checkpoints and more gun crazy settlers.
Stop and think. This war took a long time to plan. Hamas kept their ceasefire for 6 months until israel broke it at a time of their chosing, knowing that hamas would respond. Israel does not want peace because that would mean making concessions. So instead they cast the downtrodden palestians as the aggressors, provoke them and then set out to destroy them using a plan that has been a long time in the making. For every rocket sent from gaza there have been thousands of missiles from israel. for every israeli soldier being held there are thousands of Palestinians. open your eyes. this is israeli agression not israeli defence. Israeli politicians do not want peace - for political reasons, which is simply madness. there will be a ceasefire and there will be negotiations. but Israel wants to reduce Hamas’s bargaining power before Obama gets in. The price is the blood of a few thousand civilians and a couple of hundred jihadis, one that Israel is more than willing to pay.

if you want to understand this conflict, look at the american indians and how the whiteman stole their land and broke every promise they ever made.

  10. point 1: the antisemitic maessage was on al-aqsa tv, also shown on aljazeera, and confirmed by memritv.org.

point 2: jimmy carter travelled to syria in april 2008 to negotiate with hamas leader khaled meschal, who repeatedly stated that hamas will never accept the existence of israel.

point 3: i agree with you on the settler issue in gaza. it has been solved in 2005 - by israel, who pulled out every single settler by force through its own military.

point 4: you are totally right: for every rocket from gaza there will be revenge from israel, for every israeli being held, there will be revenge from israel - but hamas does not stop, so israel won’t.

point 5: it’s the jihadis who hide behind civilians, who enjoy every new dead victim to hold into the camera! did you know that israel treats wounded palestinians from gaza in israeli hospitals? did you know that paranoid hamas fanatics execute their own people in their own hospitals of fear them being traitors?

i dont think we will come to a conclusion in this discussion as you might think i am brainwashed with worldwide jewish conspiracy television, eh? i rest my case.

  12. It’s sad to see how we need to blame one side and elevate another… truth does not live there…
Hamas is holding their own people in Gaza as hostages, the Israeli goverment has gone out into this military adventure against many of the people of Israel’s heart felt wishes.. there is an amazing project of talking and filming of both sides of the communities living on both sides of the south border, it’s quite touching and revealing in it’s honesty and non propaganda evidence… it has been too long that the people in the south have been under missile attacks, they were frightened to leave their homes to go to buy food.. it is too long that Hamas cannot sustain a truce and sit for talks… for both sides.. it is too long that people that were friends before, from Gaza and Israel cannot see each other anymore, let alone talk over the phone (sometimes acause of espionage fright).. bring it down to the real people and not the ideologies, the flags and the posters.. people in Gaza are afraid to explode with all the guns and artilery that they have been hiding there, some of them do not know anymore for what are they hiding guns in their house for, against their own or against the so called enemy.. they want to build their business back again.. it resembles now also the state of affairs that was in afganistan for some time.. bombs and destruction were a common language, be it afgani russian american.. so much of the destruction started by their own war lords against their own people.. so sad how anger may manifest.. Israel wants to protect her people, and the people in the south have been feeling like sitting ducks for the whole world, just so that another war will not start.. thousands of people have been relocated just over a year ago, confused, immigrants in their own country, leaving their homes and amazing fertile productive farms for palestine, so that the south border will be a bit more relaxed.. and such an amazing oportunity has been missed? A country needs to find the strength and honour to make peace, and that is for all sides involved.. and do we really know who the players are?!
