voiding your apple warranty howto

…apple helps you with it too! based on a true story.

1. wait until something strange happens to the internal hard drive of your macbook pro
2. decide to replace the internal hard drive
3. call apple support and have them on the phone going through the whole pram-zapping, pmu-resetting routine chitchat. at the end do not forget to ask at least three times if you void your warranty if you replace the hard drive yourself.
4. to make sure that you do everything correctly, consult your manual AND the photo illustrated iFixit guides
5. be AS CAREFUL AS POSSIBLE with the flat ribbon cables connected to the logic board.
6. you will have a good chance that a badly manufactured cable will break anyways - it’s adrenalin fun - gwaaaah!!
7. go to your local apple support dealer and tell them about it
8. pay attention to their babbling from the point where they tell you that attempting to replace a hard-drive all by yourself completely voids the regular warranty plus the apple care future warranty…
9. IF…you turn it in to the regular technical support procedure………….

Lessons learned:

1. never trust apple support hotline geeks
2. don’t just be careful with the ribbon cables, TREAT THEM LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON ‘EM!
3. sending your machine to official support can be worse than buying the replacement parts online and doing it yourself, because they will put a note that you voided the warranty. just replace it yourself (and get rid of the fingerprints and other DIY evidence) and pretend there was never anything wrong when you turn it in to apple support next time (ribbon cables have no serial number)…

ich bin schon sowas von gespannt auf die neue dvd reihe der filmedition suhrkamp.

ich werde definitiv alexander kluge’s film “Nachrichten aus der ideologischen Antike” kaufen - eine kommentierte sammlung filmischer miniaturen zu marx’ “Kapital”, gespräche mit peter sloterdijk, dietmar dath, oskar negt, boris groys, etc. damit vervollständigt er das, was sergej eisenstein (”panzerkreuzer potemkin”) mit seinem nie vollendeten mammutprojekt begonnen hat, der “kinofizierung” des “kapitals” von marx.

am liebsten hätte ich alle filme, was aber etwas teuer werden könnte. man könnte natürlich dieses kulturgut “syndikalistisch dezentral” erwerben und intern verleihen. hat jemand interesse?

338 zu 163. das wahlergebnis spricht für sich. in der haut obamas möchte ich nicht stecken. der scherbenhaufen, den der kommende präsident zu beseitigen hat und die hoffnungen und wünsche, die das (weltweite) volk auf die präsidentschaft obamas projiziert hat, das alles ist so immens, dass ernüchterung und enttäuschung vorprogrammiert sind. dennoch glaube ich, dass obamas aussergewöhnliches engagement und sein durchhaltewillen viel zur allgemeinen aufbruchstimmung beigetragen haben und sein motto “yes we can!” vielleicht der antriebsmotor sein kann für weltweite ökologische, demokratische und emanzipatorische kräfte und den mut, dinge selbst in die hand zu nehmen.

großartiges Projekt des Künstlers Ronen Eidelman, zusätzlich zu Israel einen neuen jüdischen Staat mitten in Deutschland zu gründen…bestehend aus Thüringen - eine “neue Weimarer Republik” namens Medinat Weimar. Eidelman hat 13 Thesen dazu verfasst, die ich allesamt sehr unterstützenswert finde! Mazel Tov!
